GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY
Current economic times understandably leave many people thinking they can not get the help they need. An option that is both affordable and effective is group psychotherapy.
Some Benefits of Group Psychotherapy
• More affordable than individual therapy
• Powerful therapeutic environment for understanding
and changing patterns of behavior
• Offers the lonely or isolated person the opportunity to
deal with obstacles that have hindered past relationships
• Can serve as a dynamic complement to individual therapy
Groups With and Without a Theme
Many people have a preconception that psychotherapy groups should be geared toward a specific topic, such as grief. While I have run topic-related groups in the past that have been successful, I've found the most effective and dynamic groups are ones without a topic or theme. And even topic groups, if facillitate well, end up expanding into other areas as the group members talk about themselves and share reactions about what the other members say. Similar to how I work in individual psychoanalysis, I work to treat the entire person—not just a symptom—so that real changes can happen.
How to Join One of My Groups
If you're interested in being in one of my groups, call me so we can meet. Many of the people in my groups are also in individual therapy while some of my clients come for a few individual psychotherapy sessions before entering a group. It's important for us to visit enough so that I can place you in the right group for you. Group psychotherapy is dynamic and exciting. I invite you to call me at 212-230-1881.
